Position summary
The Chaplain provides spiritual assessment, counsel and ritual support to patients and families, respecting each person's beliefs, culture and wishes, and supports staff after difficult losses.
Essential duties
- Complete a spiritual assessment on admission and update it as needs change.
- Provide presence, prayer, ritual or sacrament according to the patient's own tradition.
- Coordinate with the patient's own clergy or faith community when requested.
- Support families through anticipatory grief, vigil and funeral planning questions.
- Contribute the spiritual plan of care to the interdisciplinary group.
- Provide memorial and bereavement support and staff debriefs.
Requirements
- • Bachelor's degree; theological education or equivalent formation.
- • Experience providing spiritual care to seriously ill or dying people.
- • Ability to serve patients of all faiths and of no faith without proselytizing.
- • Valid Arizona driver license, reliable vehicle and current auto insurance.
- • Negative TB screening and background clearance.
Preferred
- • Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) units or board certification (BCC).
- • Bilingual English/Spanish.
