Hospice Chaplain

$28 – $38 per hour

Position summary

The Chaplain provides spiritual assessment, counsel and ritual support to patients and families, respecting each person's beliefs, culture and wishes, and supports staff after difficult losses.

Essential duties

  • Complete a spiritual assessment on admission and update it as needs change.
  • Provide presence, prayer, ritual or sacrament according to the patient's own tradition.
  • Coordinate with the patient's own clergy or faith community when requested.
  • Support families through anticipatory grief, vigil and funeral planning questions.
  • Contribute the spiritual plan of care to the interdisciplinary group.
  • Provide memorial and bereavement support and staff debriefs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree; theological education or equivalent formation.
  • Experience providing spiritual care to seriously ill or dying people.
  • Ability to serve patients of all faiths and of no faith without proselytizing.
  • Valid Arizona driver license, reliable vehicle and current auto insurance.
  • Negative TB screening and background clearance.

Preferred

  • Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) units or board certification (BCC).
  • Bilingual English/Spanish.
